Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) national general secretary Hari Borikar has advocated introduction of region-specific technical courses in tourism, forestry, agro-horticulture and pharmaceuticals to make the youths of north east employable.
Terming lack of quality and higher educational institutions as a bane for the region, he said, "This has been forcing migration of about one and half lakh students from the region annually to other parts of India in search of quality education."
He suggested vocational courses as a panacea for tackling the high dropout rate.
Borikar said on the sidelines of a function here yesterday, "Though Arunachal Pradesh has been one of the most neglected part of India since 1947, but the highest number of students from this state of the few thousands from the region had joined the Students' Experience in Interstate Living (SEIL) launched in 1966 with the sole motto of 'one culture, one nation, one people. "
He said SIEL, an ABVP initiative, has for the last 60 years aimed at integrating the North East with the rest of the country. It is a cultural exchange tour and short stay in host families gives the feel that even in diversity, we are one in soul and heart.
