Union minister Kalraj Mishra today said that involvement of people through the khadi industry could help uproot terrorism.
"Enthused with the massive response to the first ever national exhibition organised by the KVIC in Jammu and Kashmir last year, Union minister Kalraj Mishra said involvement of people through khadi could uproot terrorism," the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) said in a statement.
Addressing a meeting of the KVIC here, Mishra, who is Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister, observed that earlier people in the valley were apprehensive about participating in the exhibition-cum-sale.
"But in a day or two, the people there realised that making khadi products can be the best way for them to eke out a proper livelihood," he said, adding "we want to generate maximum employment with the motto 'one yarn, one nation'".
Mishra said the MSME ministry will organise such exhibitions regularly in the valley as this "symbol of self- reliance can give the people enough courage to tackle the problems there".
Expressing satisfaction with the KVIC's report card, Mishra said that the government would leave no stone unturned in establishing coordination between vision and action, to fulfil the combined cherished dreams of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
He said the time has come to incorporate maximum number of people, especially those belonging to the weaker sections of the society and women, in the welfare schemes run by the KVIC and laid stress upon maximising the reach of khadi to the remotest areas.
KVIC Chairman V K Saxena said the body is promoting bee- keeping as it has immense potential in employment generation and in the coming years, it can be the biggest job-creator in the country, particularly in rural areas.
