Hours after his arrest today, more than two months after the Supreme Court cancelled his anticipatory bail and directed him to surrender before a trial court in a dowry and woman harassment case, an IPS officer was hospitalised on a complaint of back pain.
R V Varun Kumar who appeared before XIth Metropolitan Magistrate Court and surrendered in the case, being probed by anti-dowry cell of city police, was admitted to the Government hospital at Royapettah on a complaint of back pain.
Hospital sources said an orthopaedician would examine him tomorrow.
In the morning, magistrate Shanthi had remanded Varun Kumar to 15 days judicial custody, after which defence counsel filed a bail petition even as the anti-dowry cell filed a plea seeking his custody for a week.
While the bail plea was adjourned to April 30, hearing on the police petition seeking his custody was posted to Apr 29.
However, seeking an early hearing, Kumar's counsel filed an advance petition praying that the court hear the bail petition today, which was dismissed. Soon after, he was arrested and taken to Puzhal prison.
