Iqbal Singh Grewal has been elected president of the Punjab unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI), Congress' students wing.
About 900 of the over 2,400 NSUI delegates cast their votes to elect the new president yesterday, an NSUI spokesman said here today.
Grewal polled 562 votes as against 292 votes polled by his nearest rival Neerinder Singh Sandhu.
Of the posts of general secretaries and secretaries, the Grewal camp managed to bag four of five posts of general secretaries and all the five posts of secretaries, he said.
Of the three delegates to the national body from Punjab, Iqbal Singh Grewal group managed to have two of its candidates elected.
Grewal, son of agriculturist Kartar Singh Daad, is a brother-in-law of Bikramjit Inder Singh Chahal, son of BIS Chahal, media advisor to the then Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
The NSUI-led alliance dominated Panjab University Campus Students' Council (PUCSC) election last year winning three out of four office-bearers' post.
