Irani, who had last week returned from a foreign trip, was admitted to the hospital on Monday after she complained of pain and discomfort due the boil, sources said.
After meeting with Education secretaries of her ministry last Saturday, she cancelled several of her engagements, including a meeting of central university vice chancellors on Tuesday, they said.
The minister today addressed a gathering over video conferencing while launching the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan programme.
"She had developed a boil on the leg and underwent a minor surgery and was kept under observation for a day. Irani is recovering now and could be discharged very soon," said a source.
