They are also be imparted knowledge about the places of tourist interest in their localities, with the programme eliciting enthusiastic response, IRCTC, a railway PSU, said in a statement.
"In the north zone, we set a target of providing training to 250 auto/taxi drivers and 235 of them have already been given training. Likewise in the South Zone, the target was 200 but we have exceeded it by training 205 drivers," said IRCTC chairman and managing director A K Manocha.
The target for Delhi is 75, Agra (50), Varanasi (100) and Chandigarh (10), he said.
IRCTC has also trained 1,100 underprivileged youth under Tourism Ministry's Hunar Se Rozgar Tak programme.
