IRS officer Binny Sharma's father demands police to speed up investigation, accuses son-in-law

The father of IRS officer Binny Sharma, who had allegedly killed herself last month, Tuesday demanded police to speed up investigation in the case while accusing her husband of abetting the suicide.

Chandra Mohan Sharma, Binny's father, told reporters here that he has handed over evidences to the police including CCTV footage which showed that her husband Gurpreet Walia used to torture her.

He alleged that the police did not probe the matter with seriousness and delayed his arrest.

Walia is an Indian Accounts and Audit Service (IA&AS) officer posted in Chandigarh.

Raisal Singh, the investigating officer and the station house officer at Bajaj Nagar Police Station, said her husband and mother-in-law have been made accused in the case and they were questioned on Monday.

He informed that both the accused, who are on anticipatory bail at present, would be called for next round of questioning in the next few days.

Thirty-five-year-old Binny, a mother of two, had hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home here on the night of August 6.

In a suicide note, she had blamed her husband and mother-in-law for ruining her life.

A 2008-batch IRS officer, she was posted in Jaipur as the deputy commissioner in the central goods and services tax commissionerate.
