ISI Coimbatore to introduce two more courses

Minister of State (IC) for Statistics and Program Implementation Dr V K Singh has agreed to strengthen this industrial city by deciding to introduce more certificate courses.
Accordingly, Indian Statistical Institute, Coimbatore Unit would introduce two courses to start with, D Nandakumar, president, local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said in a release here today.
One course would be on "Lean Six Sigma for Wholesome Excellence" in collaboration with SAC and the other on "Enterprise Business Analytics" to facilitate Small and Medium enterprises.
A delegation led by Chamber Vice-President N Subramaniam had met Singh at Delhi on September 30 in connection with the proposed merger of ISI unit here with Chennai, for better administrative convenience.

However, on learning of objections from city dwellers, Singh told them he was well aware of the needs of Coimbatore and appreciated its Entrepreneurship and Industrial Development.
He assured them that the ISI unit would not be merged with Chennai and continue to function as in the past at Coimbatore.

ISI has been functioning for the last 60 years for the benefit of trade, industry and business of Coimbatore as the institute of National importance funded by Union Government.
Coimbatoreans had strongly objected to the merger of the unit with Chennai, as the local unit was doing an excellent job for industries in various quality aspects, including ISO projects, Lean, Six Sigma and Business Analytic, he said.

The Chamber has submitted a representation to Singh, seeking approval for ISI unit Coimbatore to go ahead with introduction of "Lean Six Sigma for Wholesome Excellence" - Certificate course in collaboration with SAC.
