To decongest traffic on Gurgaon roads and check rising pollution, IT companies in association with city police have come up with a "commuters' database" that aims at developing customised routes for car and bus pooling.
Several Information Technology (IT) firms have chipped in to prepare the database by providing details on number of employees working with them including their route and shift timings so as to map out cutomised routes to and fro their office, officials said.
The database will be used for car and bus pooling, thereby cutting down on the number of private vehicles which congest traffic on Gurgaon roads and add to pollution.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk was also present at the launch of the database, which is currently in its initial phase.
"Gurgaon police appreciated the initiative by city MNCs and IT companies to help us in reducing the pollution with this new concept," said Gurgaon Police APRO Hawa Singh.
"The idea is that by sharing information on our commuting needs (by locations, shift timings etc), we can create CNG bus routes that are not just viable but optimised - with minimum last mile distance for our employees, fewer stops along the way, and possibly a greater frequency allowing some flexibility in travel timings," he added.
Singh added that private cab services and even public transport buses will also be able to use this data to improve their services for office-goers.
The current consortium members include Nagarro, Snapdeal, Incedo, NTT Data, Fidelity, Authbridge, Fractal Analytics, Aricent, Genpact, Covergys, Teleperformance and Makemytrip.
