Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said here that with Vishwajit joining BJP, the process of party's spread in the area had started.
The tehsil, located in North Goa district, has two Assembly constituencies: Valpoi (which Vishwajit represented) and Poriem, represented by his father, a senior Congressman.
Speaking to reporters, Rane junior said he won't be staying away from his father's turf.
"Lotus will bloom even in Poriem," Vishwajit said.
The former state health minister said he took his father's blessings before joining BJP today.

When asked if the senior Rane will also join BJP, Vishwajit said, "You can ask him.
"I told him that I would be joining BJP with my supporters, and he was OK with it," he said.
"I wanted to join hands with BJP before the Assembly elections by forming a regional outfit, Sattari Yuva Morcha. That could not materialise," he said.
Pratapsinh remained unavailable for comments.
Vishwajit, who was elected from Valpoi, resigned from the Congress and also quit as MLA after absenting himself from the House when Parrikar sought the crucial trust vote and won. He said he was miffed with Congress for failing to form the government despite winning the maximum number of seats.
