The Indo-Tibetan Border Police today denied reports that three of its troopers who were involved in rescue and relief operations in rain-hit Uttarakhand have been killed.
"News reports saying that three ITBP men have died in Kedarnath is wrong and baseless as there were six jawans in this area out of which five have been located. The sixth is also safe," ITBP spokesperson Deepak Pandey told PTI.
Senior officials of the force said local commanders in the area have checked the status of the troops and found that such reports would have a demoralising effect on those personnel who are working tirelessly to provide succour to all those pilgrims and tourists who have either been stranded or are sick.
The border guarding force has deployed close to 600 of its personnel for relief and rescue tasks in the state.
