The chief of border guarding force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), today took a ride of the Delhi Metro to reach Gurgaon to attend a function in neighbouring Manesar.
ITBP Director General Krishna Chaudhary boarded the metro from INA station around 9 AM and got off at Huda City Centre, the last station on this line, before he took an official vehicle to reach the NSG Garrison in Manesar to attend the force's raising day function.
Chaudhary, who lives in Andrews Ganj area of central Delhi, travelled for about an hour in the Delhi Metro with two of his staff officials.
"As usual, the DG was supposed to take the road route to attend the NSG Raising day event in Manesar today but at the last moment, he changed the plan and instructed his officials to take him to the nearest metro station.
"He said this will not only save time but also help in encouraging the habit of taking public transport, thereby reducing pollution and traffic from the already congested roads," a source in Chaudhary's team said.
Security officials at INA station were taken by surprise seeing a senior police official early morning and as soon as they got to know that the DG will travel in the metro, they walked up with him to the metro coach.
The DG, donning his khaki uniform for the NSG event officiated by Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, also shunned his armed security cover, at the INA station, which travels with him every time he is mobile.
The 1979-batch Bihar cadre IPS officer took over as ITBP DG in February this year while he was serving as the chief of the Railway Protection Force.
