Six climbers from the ITBP expedition reached the top by taking the tough northern route from Tibet and they will be followed by another batch of troopers before the final ski down is attempted by these border guarding personnel.
The 23-member squad, which was flagged off from the national capital on April 6 by Delhi Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna, reached the summit at 0830 IST today and unfurled the tri-colour to mark the event.
"The six-member squad, along with our specialist skiers who will reach the peak shortly after them, will begin the ski down from the Chinese side which the force is attempting this time as part of its golden jubilee celebrations," ITBP spokesperson Deepak Pandey said.
ITBP Director General Ranjit Sinha talked to the successful mountaineers through a satellite phone just after the successful assault today.
Today's team was led by ITBP Second-in-Command Ratan Singh Sonal and included troopers Pradeep Kumar Negi, Pasing Sherpa, Devendra Singh, Birendra Singh and Kishore Prasad Gurung.
