Addressing a conference of the state unit of IUML here, its national president and former Union minister E Ahamed said IUML "rejects with contempt it deserves the demands like the Muslims should be deprived of their voting rights."
"As long as Constitution remains in India and judiciary is independent, no power will be able to touch the rights and privileges of minorities," Ahamed said.
Former MP from Tamil Nadu Abdu Rehman, and IUML leaders from Karnataka and Maharashtra attended the conference.
Sena MP Sanjay Raut had caused a flutter through his write-up in party mouthpiece 'Saamana' demanding that the voting rights of Muslims be withdrawn. However, he later made a u-turn saying he was misconstrued.
