The Congress's youth wing today took to the streets to press for the sacking of senior BJP leaders caught in controversy as they demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi listen to public sentiment in this regard.
Wearing black armbands, masks and with their hands symbolically handcuffed, the members of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) also called upon Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to revoke the suspension of 25 Congress MPs as they undertook a 'muk morcha' (silent march).
Mahajan had on August 3 suspended the Congress MPs for disrupting proceedings of the House.
"Modi should stop his dictatorship and listen to the people of India. BJP leaders involved in corruption cases should resign immediately. We also want Mahajan to revoke the suspension of the Congress MPs,"IYC president Amrinder Singh Raja said during the protest.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje are embroiled in the Lalit Modi controversy while Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is under attack in connection with the Vyapam scam.
Also, BJP's Maharashtra Minister Pankja Munde has had fingers pointed at her in the alleged multi-crore chikki scam.
During the protest, bare-torsoed IYC members raised slogans against the BJP leaders and also held up placards and posters demanding their resignation.
Besides Raja, several office-bearers of the Congress's youth wing took part in the march.
