The BJP on Thursday celebrated the parliamentary nod to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in many areas of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP workers gathered at various places, distributed sweets and burst firecrackers, hailing the passage of the Bill and terming it "another milestone" for the Narendra Modi government.
"This Bill is against nobody and is in the best interests of the nation and the humanity. Common people also joined the celebrations. People are very happy and said that the bill is another historic step taken by the Modi government," BJP leader T N Bhat said.
The Bill, which proposes to give citizenship to non-Muslim migrants who have come to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh facing religious persecution there, was passed by Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and by Lok Sabha on Monday.
