As a part of the BJP's nation-wide Uttarakhand flood relief campaign, the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the party today collected Rs one lakh for the cause.
"The Uttarakhand tragedy is unprecedented and it is the duty of every human being to contribute for the relief of victims depending on his or her capacity," BJP state president, Jugal Kishore Sharma, who led the collection campaign in the state on its first day, told reporters here.
"It is a calamity which can happen anywhere and therefore everybody should feel the pain of the people who have been going through the suffering," he added.
Meanwhile, Chander Prakash Ganga, who has been appointed as convener of the relief committee, said that such a relief collection programme will be held at each district and mandal level till July 5.
He appealed the party activists to even approach their relatives and friends for this noble cause.
