Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Electoral Officer Shantmanu today directed officials to expedite necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of by-elections to two Parliamentary constituencies in the state.
The CEO chaired a meeting to review preparations for the by-elections of Anantnag and Srinagar constituencies, an official spokesman said here.
He said Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan, District Development Commissioners of Srinagar and Pulwama and other concerned officials were present on the occasion, while Deputy Commissioners of other Valley districts participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
The meeting held threadbare deliberations on various aspects regarding smooth conduct of the upcoming by-elections, the spokesman said.
On the occasion, preparedness for panchayat elections was also discussed in detail.
The spokesman said the CEO directed the concerned officials to expedite arrangements necessary for smooth and peaceful conduct of the elections.
While the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency fell vacant after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was elected to the state Legislature, the by-poll has been necessitated in Srinagar constituency because of resignation of former PDP leader Tariq Hameed Qarra from Lok Sabha last year.
