Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today expressed grief over the death of Colonel Santosh Mahadik in a gunfight with militants in the northern district of Kupwara.
Sayeed conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace for the departed soul.
The Commanding Officer of 41 Rashtriya Rifles, Mahadik was critically injured when militants hiding in a dense forest area of Haji Naka opened fire on a search party that he was leading.
Mahadik, who belonged to the elite Para Commando force, was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
