"The cause espoused by him (Sheikh Abdullah) during the struggle against feudalism and the objectives set in progressive Socialistic-Politico-Economic document known as Naya Kashmir seems not matching with the ground reality," CPI(M) state secretary M Y Tarigami said here.
Paying rich tributes to Abdullah, Tarigami said the followers of Sher-I-Kashmir should see whether the ideals of democracy and social advancement are propagated and followed on the ground.
"The true tribute to Abdullah can only be, if those claiming to be his followers introspect and follow the cherished desires of democracy he had in his lifetime," he said.
Quoting Abdullah, the CPI(M) leader said: "Power should not be the ultimate end but only a means to serve the people".
Tarigami censured coercive methods being adopted to suppress voices of the dissent saying that the fundamental democratic rights of the people of the state cannot be denied.
He added democratisation of local polity is need of the hour and institutions of governance need to be strengthened.
