J-K drug scam: Pharmas stage protest, demands CBI probe

A group of pharmacists today staged a demonstration here against the spurious drug scam and demanded handing over the investigation of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to book the culprits.
Over two dozen pharmacists assembled at the press enclave in Partap park area of Lal Chowk in the heart of the city under the banner of Pharma Managers Welfare Club and held a peaceful demonstration to press for CBI investigation into the drug scam.
"We are here to lodge a strong protest against the faulty drug system and to press for a CBI probe into the spurious drug racket, so that the culprits behind the scam are brought to book," the protestors said.

The protestors were carrying placards which read "only CBI investigation is acceptable, stop killing patients, book the culprits (involved in the scam) and we want justice."
Later, they were dispersed off peacefully by the police officials.
Earlier, on April 5, the state government has blacklisted the pharmaceutical company Life Line Pharamaco Surgical Ltd and cancelled its drug licence for supplying substandard antibiotic medicines meant for government hospitals.
A laboratory test of the anti-biotic supplied to hospitals had shown that the medicine was sub-standard and did not contain any amount of amoxycillin against 500 mg which was shown on the packing.
