Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Kumar Singh celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan with orphans here today, and appealed people to lend a helping hand for their welfare.
"People need to extend a helping hand towards the welfare of these children. A little help can make a big difference to their lives," Singh said after the children tied 'rakhis' on his wrist.
During his interaction with the children, he enquired about their education and other needs.
"The government will ensure a safe and secure environment to these children to enable them to become successful in life," he said.
The children presented cultural performances for the deputy chief minister who appreciated the showing.
"The essence of festivals lies in celebrating them together with amity," said Singh, and exhorted the children to "strengthen bonds of love and brotherhood".
