"Jammu and Kashmir is emerging as one of the most promising golfers' destination. Sports tourism has greater potential in the state which needs to be harnessed to its optimum," Omar said.

Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the Sher-i-Kashmir golf tournament, Omar said completion of the 18-hole golf course in Leh will add to state's sports infrastructure.

Currently, there are four 18-hole golf courses in the state situated in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Jammu.

"They (participants) can enjoy playing golf in different geographical conditions and destinations within the state," he said, asking the authorities to organise events at all venues.

Giving credit to the people for restoration of peace in the Valley, Omar noted that the prevailing normalcy in the state provided a big boost to its tourism sector and gave a push to the economic activities.

Appreciating the organisers, Omar welcomed the participants for the event and invited them to play golf at the picturesque Pahalgam golf course.

Organised by the state tourism department, the tournament saw a participation of around 70 national and international players.
