J-K gears up for science meets

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today discussed the preparations for the three-day Regional Science Congress (RSC) to be held at Kashmir University next month.
Besides, the governor and the chief minister, during a meeting at Raj Bhavan here, also discussed arrangements for the 101st Session of Indian Science Congress (ISC) at Jammu University scheduled for February 2014, a spokesman said.
The RSC is expected to start from September 29 while the five-day ISC session is scheduled to commence on February 3.
Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of the Universities of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasised the need for accessing all possible sources of funding for organising the ISC in the most befitting and memorable manner.
Attention needs to be paid to all the arrangements for the ISC and the RSC so that all logistics and other facilities are timely positioned, Vohra said.
Meanwhile, Omar said the ISC and the RSC are required to be organised in a most befitting manner and for this purpose all arrangements must be ensured well in time.
Vice Chancellor, Baba Saheb Ambedkar University, Lucknow Prof R C Sobti, in his presentation on ISC, said the event is likely to be attended by more than 10,000 scientists.
Referring to the RSC being hosted by the Kashmir University, Sobti said over 100 scientists will participate in the event.
