A direction in this regard was given by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pardeep Gupta, while chairing a meeting of the representatives of oil companies, LPG distributors and CAPD department functionaries.
He asked the department concerned to clear any confusion consumers might have about the norms for verification and the revised system of LPG distribution.
As per the Centre's decision, registered consumers would get six subsidised LPG cylinders a year. However, he said there would be no cap on non-subsidised ones and a registered consumer can get the same at any time.
He further directed to formulate a smooth mechanism to complete the verification process in a short span of time so that consumers do not face any inconvenience in getting the cooking gas cylinders.
The meeting was also informed that owing to heavy load on distributors in the wake of verification of old connections, the issuance of fresh connections has been put on hold for the time being.
If there are two connections on same address, one would be blocked as per the directives of the Centre.
Gupta asked the CAPD department to work in a coordinated manner with oil companies and sort out the gas connections issue using a people friendly approach.
