Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand yesterday reviewed the exercise being conducted by Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) for presenting a new concept about existing master plan 2000-2021, an official spokesman said.

Chand said all stake holders, civil society and concerned public representatives would be involved to ensure inclusion of all concepts in order to make both Srinagar and Jammu greater cities.

Massive violations of Srinagar Master Plan have been reported over the last 12 years with hundreds of illegal commercial establishments coming up in areas designated as residential areas. Many of these commercial outlets belong to influential and well-heeled persons.

The SDA had issued notices to the violators three years ago asking them to close down the commercial outlets but no action has been taken since.

Chand asked the officers to coordinate and share their experiences and expertise so that a foresighted document is prepared.

He asked the concerned consultancy to speed up the process and ensure that Master Plan document is prepared early.
