J&K govt not to implement 73rd Amendment: Min

Jammu and Kashmir government today said that it is not contemplating implementing the 73rd Amendment of the Indian Constitution in the state that seeks to empower Panchayati Raj System.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq Khan said the government is not contemplating to implement the 73rd Amendment of the Constitution as the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Act, 2014 has been enacted to incorporate broad features of the 73rd Amendment in the state act.
While replying to a question by Congress member Ghulam Nabi Monga in the Legislative Council, he said that the government is examining to hold elections to the other 2-tiers to make the Panchayati Raj institutions 3-tier.
The members of the House Surinder Chaudhary, Sajad Kichloo, Dr Shehnaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat raised supplementaries.
