Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to engage Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) as a consultant for dealing with different scales of emergencies and disasters in the state, an official spokesman said today.
"The government is likely to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TISS as consultant for preparation of a comprehensive disaster management plan for the state," the spokesman said after a high level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary M I Khandey here.
The meeting was convened to take stock of measures being implemented to face exigencies on account of natural calamities like earthquakes, floods, snow storms and cloud bursts, the spokesman said.
He said, the consultant would prepare and develop the State Disaster Management Plan within a period of nine months.
"The consultant will also prepare an interim report on implementation of emergency procedures for dealing with different scales of emergencies and disasters in the state," he said.
The consultant would also facilitate and conduct different workshops and community participation exercises to promote culture of preparedness and efficient response, relief and recovery across the state, he added.
