J&K independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid today held a protest against the state government's new employment policy, calling it "a grave injustice" and violation of fundamental and human rights.
"The new recruitment policy by the government amounts to playing with the future of the youth. This is against fundamental rules and is a human rights violation," Rashid, who represents north Kashmir's Langate constituency in the Assembly told reporters here.
He led a protest rally of the workers of his Awami Ittehad Party from Sher-e-Kashmir Park to Press Colony here demanding rollback of the policy.
The MLA accused PDP of forming the coalition with BJP on the pretext of Centre giving packages to the state but "was now doing injustice with the youth."
"They (PDP) said they allied with the Centre (BJP) so that (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi gives us some job packages. But now you have said you will recruit youth on a contractual basis for seven years.
"This will destroy the future of the youth. What about their service? Will the civil service rules apply on them? If somebody dies in an accident during the time, what will he get? Will he come under SRO-43?" he asked.

Coming down heavily on the J&K government, the MLA said that the new policy will equate a gazetted level officer with a daily wager.
"We were hopeful that since you (PDP) had sold Kashmir in Delhi and surrendered your ideology, you will create new avenues and opportunities here. Rather, you are bringing the gazetted level officer to the level of a daily wager.
"This policy is not acceptable to us. It is an injustice to our youth," he said.
