"As a part of the drive against absenteeism in district Shopian, the District Development Commissioner Shopian Mohammad Javed Khan placed under suspension 107 employees for remaining absent from duty without prior authorisation," an official spokesman said.
The spokesman said the employees against whom action has been initiated included 12 senior officers in the gazetted ranks.
Khan, accompanied by a team of officers conducted surprise inspection of various schools and government offices across the district yesterday and checked the attendance of officers and officials posted there.
