The Jammu and Kashmir government is contemplating to set up 22 'Dehi' (village) courts in the state to speed up justice delivery system.
"The creation and establishment of 22 Dehi Courts, one court in each district of the state, is under active consideration of the government," Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mir Saifullah today said in a written reply to the question of NC member Devender Singh Rana in Legislative Council.
The government has also established a special court of the level of district and session judge for exclusive trial of corruption cases investigated by CBI in Jammu.
The creation of a similar special court at Srinagar is under process, Saifullah said.
These measures have been taken to reduce the pendency of cases in the courts, he said, adding the government in consultation with High Court has filled up vacancies in the courts apart from creating new and additional courts.
Very recently, five judges have been appointed in Jammu and Kashmir High Court, the minister said.
The state government has also established 4,128 Panchayati Adalats under the Panchayati Raj Act for disposal of petty cases.
