"Jammu and Kashmir government is embarking on a plan to utilise the vacant evacuee land by constructing community halls, shopping centre and residential flats," Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla said while addressing a gathering at Udhaywalla.
Evacuee Property (EP) will be made a recurring source for revenue generation, he said.
Earlier, he laid the foundation stone of multipurpose community hall, which would be constructed within 18 months at an expense of Rs 8 crore.
The multipurpose community hall to be constructed on over two-acre land will have 10 rooms, marriage hall, kitty party hall, toilet, lawn and parking.
He appreciated the gesture of the EP department in retrieving about 175 acres of land from grabbers in Jammu and Samba districts.
Earlier, EP department had constructed 30 residential flats comprising of 10 blocks at an estimated cost of Rs two crore at Meen Sarkar in Bari Brahamna, he said.

The minister said that EP department is also constructing multipurpose community halls at Wazarat Road, Oriental shopping Mall at Chand Nagar, residential flats at Anand Nagar and Dhamwal in Jammu and for this purpose government has earmarked Rs nine crore.
EP department has also constructed office complexes at Srinagar besides many other commercial projects across the state, he said adding that most of nearing completion for inauguration.
A comprehensive plan has been prepared for renovation and upkeep of EP in the state, Bhalla said.
The minister said that the government has revised EP rules to ensure that the tenants may not face any problem in the maintenance of the property they are living in.
