J-K govt to install solar plants in all district hospitals

Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to install solar power plants (SPPs) at every district and sub-district hospital of the state.
The state government has decided to install SSPs at every district and sub-district hospital of the state to provide these health institutions with a dependable power supply system, minister of state for Science, Technology and Information Technology Feroz Ahmed Khan said after inaugurating a solar power plant here today at Sarwal hospital.
The 20 KW solar plant has been installed by the Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) of the science and technology department at a cost of Rs 49 lakh which will augment the hospital's power requirement round-the-clock.
Feroz said the government was keen to harness new and renewable energy potential in the state and use it as an instrument to improve the socio-economic condition of people.
Minister of state for health, Shabir Khan in his address said, with the installation of solar power plant, the hospital will get uninterrupted power supply and help in improving the health services.
Gandhi Nagar hospital will also be provided with this facility to overcome the problem of power crisis, Khan said adding, all district hospitals, PHCs and CHCs will also be provided with SSPs.
