Jammu and Kashmir government has issued instructions to the two premier universities of the state to allow students from other states to pursue their higher studies in the state.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today issued directions to the Vice-Chancellors of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, to encourage students from other states willing to pursue higher education in Jammu and Kashmir.
Sayeed, who is the Chancellor of the two universities, also asked the Vic-Chancellors to start preparations for holding convocations of the universities in the months of May and June respectively.
He was chairing a high-level meeting called to review the functioning of the two universities.
Minister for Education, Nayeem Akhtar and Minister for Finance, Haseeb Drabu attended the meeting.
The Vice-Chancellors briefed the chief minister about the status of academics, infrastructure, placements and perspective plans vis-a-vis their universities. Sayeed stressed the need to give scholars from outside the state a level playing field in getting admissions in the state.
"Our students are studying all over the country for higher and advanced education. We should also take effective steps to facilitate those students from other states who are willing to seek higher education in our universities," he said.
