Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today expressed concern over recurring traffic jams within the state as he met IG (Traffic) Jagjit Kumar here.
The meeting was held as the Raj Bhawan here during apprised which Kumar apprised him about the steps being taken to streamline the traffic movement in the state, a Raj Bhawan spokesman said.
Vohra advised the IG to launch a campaign to spread awareness among the citizens and drivers about their duties to maintain road discipline and to enforce all measures required to protect those who travel by road.
Kumar is the third top police officer to be told by the governor about the mismanagement of traffic in Jammu city and on the highway in the state which is causing problems to the people.
Vohra on March 3 had raised the issue of "mismanagement of traffic" in Jammu and directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to devote close attention to problems caused by it and prompt removal of all encroachment on the highways.
Earlier on February 26, Vohra had directed the Director General of Police S P Vaid to take strict measures to deal with the heavy traffic congestion, especially on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
There are huge traffic jams on Jammu city roads due to erratic stoppage of private matadors and unauthorised parking on roads in absence of the poor traffic management by the traffic police.
