Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra asked RTI activists, who called on him today, to publicise their success stories so that the anti-corruption movement could spread and be strengthened in the state.
Welcoming a suggestion to involve educational institutions in organising workshops to impress on the importance of RTI Act, the Governor cautioned the delegation of activists of Sangarsh RTI against the abuse of the Act.
The group met Vohra at Raj Bhavan and apprised him about their experiences and mentioned significant cases which were brought to the public due to initiatives taken by their organisation.
They also briefed him about the the difficulties faced by whistleblowers in the state, including threats to lives.
The delegation of 'Sangarsh RTI' comprising activists Balvinder Singh, Raman Sharma, Dewakar Sharma, Deepak Sharma, and Harasis Singh presented the Governor a 'User Guide on the Right To Information Act 2009', to which he suggested that the Guide be published in vernacular languages to extend its reach.
