BJP leader Neelam Langeh was beaten up by the police during a demonstration early today when he was demanding that issuance of the new ration cards should be made without any stamp paper, which costs over Rs 70.
Following the incident, protestors blocked the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and observed a bandh in Ramban.
All business establishments and shops remained closed in Ramban town, which serves as main halting station on the highway for eatables.
Due to the blockade, traffic was halted on the highway following which police used mild cane charge to disperse the mob and restored traffic on the road.
However, protests and anti-government slogans continued in the town in protest against the police action and protestors demanded stern action against the cops for beating the BJP leader.
