"The relationship between the Centre and the state is based on the Constitution. Any attempt to alter it, unilaterally, will have serious consequences," said AR Rather, state Finance Minister.

He was addressing public meetings at Sholipora and Waterhail in central Kashmir's Budgam district.

Rather, a senior leader of ruling National Conference, said, "Jammu and Kashmir, unlike other states of the country, has a special constitutional status, and has the distinction of being the only state in the country to have its own Constitution."

The minister said the state after passing through a long dark tunnel of turmoil and destruction is now leading towards a brighter era of reconstruction and development under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

"A massive developmental programme is underway in every nook and corner of the state and the day is not far when it will become a prosperous state of the country," Rather said.
