"A sense of security has prevailed in the state as reflected by the arrival of more than 11 lakh tourists and 5.54 lakh Amarnath pilgrims, besides over 92 lakh Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims during the year, which boosted economy of the people," DGP Prasad said in his New Year message.
Prasad complimented the police personnel for the hard work to maintain peace and instill a sense of security amongst the masses.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has been focusing on restoring lasting peace with professional policing, he said.
"We have intensified our drive against different crimes for which professional skills are required to be sharpened. Our training institutions have been upgraded and latest techniques of investigation and crime detection have been introduced in the syllabus of different training courses".

He said that greater emphasis has been laid on upgrading the six police training institutions and one police academy to train police personnel with latest technology and advanced weaponry.
"Various special training courses have been introduced in these training institutions to equip the personnel with the skills of investigation and crime detection.
"During the year, more than 6,000 jawans and officers were imparted training in different skills and deployed in different areas of policing, in addition to 604 personnel deputed for special technological skills outside the state and abroad", said DGP.
He said that during the year, more than Rs 25 crore were sanctioned for the welfare of serving and retired personnel including the SPOs and their families.
He said the organisation is continuing its efforts to reach out to the masses with activities to refine the talents of the youth and provide succor to the destitute.
