Police today helped a woman with a newborn baby to reach home amid heavy stone-pelting in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, where a strike was observed for second consecutive day in support of the demand for removal of security camps.
A protective ring was thrown around the newborn baby and her parents, who were caught in stone-pelting while heading for their home in Baramulla town, a police spokesman said.
The mother and her child were discharged from Baramulla district hospital and were caught in the stone-pelting, he said.
"The parents along with their child and another woman attendant had to cross the bridge to reach their home but they could not due to the heavy stone-pelting on the bridge," the spokesman said, adding the pelters did not heed to the pleas of the parents as well as the police.
The continuous pelting also posed a security threat to the child, the spokesman said.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, he said police formed a protective ring around the newborn baby and his parents and provided them safe passage on their way home.
