J&K Police organise painting workshop for youth

"Police has been conducting various activities under its Civic Action Programme to cultivate talent among youth.

"The latest event is being conducted with the aim to provide a platform for the reputed artists to share their experiences with the budding artists of the state and hone their talent," Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad, said after inaugurating the eight-day workshop yesterday.

Nine artists of national repute -- Yousuf from Bhopal, Milan Dass from Patna, Sajal from Baroda, Vidya Sagar Vidyalaya from Jaipur, Rajan Fulari from Goa, Sangeeta Murthy from Gurgaon, Rathindranath Kanji from Kolkata and Huim Rajni and Shridhar Iyer from New Delhi are attending.

Seven state-level artists -- Javed Iqbal, Mohammad Yousuf Bacha, Masarat Mehboob, Rakesh Kumar, Madasir Gul, Arshad Hussain and K K Gandhi -- are also participating.

Such workshops are aimed at providing an opportunity to the youth of the state to witness the performance of artists of national fame.

"The camp will motivate our youth to come forward and excel in the field of art," he said.

The paintings made during the workshop would be displayed in different functions of the organisation.

"The youth have to play a significant role in nation building and need to be guided properly and encouraged for ensuring a bright future for them," he said, adding that people from all walks of life have to play their role in confidence building among the youth.
