Jammu and Kashmir grabbed a vital 18-run first innings lead over Tripura by dismissing their rivals for 297 and then consolidated their position on day three of their Group C Ranji Trophy match today.
Resuming at the overnight 193 for six, 122 adrift of the J&K total of 315, Tripura's major hope, their unbeaten opener Bishal Ghosh, lasted only 23 balls while adding nine runs to his overnight score before he was dismissed for 95 by former Mumbai left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh.
This was a major blow for Tripura who were, however, kept in the hunt for the lead by Gurinder Singh who marshaled the tail to make a belligerent 84 not out off 111 balls.
But despite the best efforts of Gurinder, who struck a six and 12 fours, Tripura fell short by 18 runs and in the remainder of the day, J&K strengthened their position by making 198 for three, riding on Ian Chauhan's 67 not out in 94 balls and skipper Parvez Rasool's 60 not out in 79 balls with 10 hits to the fence.
Overall, J&K are ahead by 216 runs with seven second innings wickets in hand going into the final day tomorrow.
