Jammu and Kashmir's State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today registered a case against two officials of Education department and a former school warden for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of government funds worth lakhs of rupees in Boniyar area of Baramulla district.
"A case under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Penal code was registered against the then Zonal Education Officer Boniyar Khalid Hussain, his Head clerk Mehraj-ud-din and the then warden Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Boniyar, Sajad Hussain Mir," a SVO spokesman said.
He said an enquiry, conducted by the SVO, revealed that the trio hatched a "criminal conspiracy" and misappropriated an amount of Rs 25.28 lakhs, out of the allotted funds of Rs 62.18 lakhs, which was otherwise meant for the various activities of KGBV Boniyar during the financial year 2013-14.
"The misappropriated amount had been drawn from the Government Treasury and fraudulently transferred to personal accounts of the accused officials and their close relatives," the spokesman said.
He said the enquiry also revealed that an amount of Rs 20 lakhs allotted as arrears of teachers of KGBV Boniyar was also intentionally embezzled by diverting it from the official account of ZEO Boniyar to personal account of the Mir.
Further investigations in the case were going on, the spokesman added.
