As violent protests continue to rock Jammu and Kashmir over the killing of a Hizbul Mujahideen militant, CPI today demanded that the Centre convene an all-party meeting "without any ego" and make a joint appeal for restoration of peace in the state.
"Communist Party of India (CPI) is of the opinion that the Union government should call an all-party meet to discuss the situation in Kashmir and make a joint appeal for restoration of peace. Ego should not hinder calling of the meeting," party general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement.
He also asked the government to order a judicial probe into the matter to instill confidence among people.
Reddy alleged that there was "something wrong" in government's dealing of the entire affair as he stated that people in the Valley "have never reacted so massively with anger" over death of a youth earlier.

During the meeting, Yechury asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use the hotline to talk to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the issue.
He said this channel of communication should not be stopped.
