J&K: Vohra calls for strengthening scouts & guides movement

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today called for enlarging and strengthening the scouts and guides movement in the state and stressed its introduction in every school.
The Governor, who is the patron of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides, was interacting with a large group of scouts and guides who called on him at Raj Bhavan here on the occasion of its Annual Flag Day.
Describing celebration of the Annual Flag Day as a very important event, the Governor congratulated functionaries of the J&K State Bharat Scouts and Guides and the scouts, guides, rovers, rangers and 'bulbuls' on this occasion.
Vohra observed that one of the important aspects of this movement is to enable the students from different parts of the state as well as the country to get together in the camps held from time to time and get exposed to different faiths, languages, customs and lifestyles.
He said scouting and guiding help in character building and promote the spirit of camaraderie and brotherhood which is of vital importance for sustaining the unity and integrity of the country.
The Governor called for the systematic strengthening of movements involving the youth, particularly scouts and guides, National Cadet Corps and Red Cross and enhanced focus on sports activities by educational institutions for securing the balanced and holistic development of future generations.
In another function, the Governor released the first ever original Dogri language comic book based on the life of legendary Dogri hero "Baba Jittoo" along with two Dogri translations of Amar Chitra Katha comic books: "Swami Vivekananda" and "Kalidasa" and a Dogri compilation of essays translated into English language.
The essays and the comic books have been translated and published by the Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, with financial support from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB).
These publications form part of a series of publications which have been brought out by the Dogri Sanstha with financial support and guidance from SMVDSB, aimed at promoting Dogri literature among non Dogri speaking people and to generate interest of children in this language.
