Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu today recalled the legend of Ranchi's Pahari Mandir, which was known as 'Fasi Tungri' during the British rule.
"It is said during the British rule, Pahari Baba Mandir was Fasi Tungri (a place to hang people) where patriots and revolutionaries were hanged," Murmu said here.
In her speech after Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar unfurled the tallest and biggest Tricolour atop the Pahari Mandir, Murmu said after Independence it was the first place in Ranchi where the national flag was hoisted by a freedom fighter, Krishna Chandra Das, in honour of the martyrs.
Since then the national flag is unfurled atop the Pahari Mandir on every August 15 and January 26.
She congratulated Parrikar for unfurling the Tricolour.
Paying tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 119th birth anniversary, the Governor said Netaji had a special attachment to this region.
"It is said that on his way to Delhi by Kalka Mail, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose touched Gomoh railway station. In his honour, the station was renamed as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose station," she added.
