Members of Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC), an organisation of Kashmiri Pandits's biggest township here, today flayed both state and central governments for allegedly failing to redress the grievances of the community.
"Both the state and the central governments have totally failed to redress the grievances of the people, especially the migrant community," JTC President Shadi Lal Pandita said.
Jagti township, in the outskirts of Jammu city, is home to over 5,000 Kashmiri Pandit families.
Pandita said both the governments had claimed to work for the development of the state but have so far failed to deliver on the ground. "The government has so far failed to make any headway for settlement of Kashmiri Pandit migrants in the Valley and all their promises for the same have fallen flat."
While demanding proper compensation to migrant families along with establishment of satellite townships for them in Kashmir Valley near Srinagar, Pandita alleged that the problems faced by the masses have increased since BJP came to power at the Centre.
"The BJP leaders had made huge promises to Kashmiri Pandits before elections held earlier last year, but after coming to power all the promises have been forgotten," Pandita said as he accused the saffron party of giving undue importance to Hurriyat Conference.
Pandita also demanded all trade between India and Pakistan to stop in the wake of ceasefire violations by the neighbouring country.
