Jail staff suspended after 3 inmates escape

Three inmates escaped from Etawah district jail following which the entire prison staff on duty, including the jail superintendent, jailor and deputy jailors, were suspended with immediate effect, official sources said here today.
"Three inmates, including one who was serving a life term, escaped from the prison late last night by scaling the walls with the help of a pipe and a rope," Special Secretary (Home) Arun Kumar Mishra told reporters.
Among the escaped inmates is one Shakir Ali who was serving a life sentence in a murder case.
The two remaining inmates are Rakesh alias Tandoori, an accused in rape and murder case, and Sanju, another rape accused.
The incident came to light this morning when jail staff found ropes dangling from the walls. The matter was confirmed after a count of the inmates was taken.
Mishra said that jail superintendent RN Pandey, jailor AK Pandey and deputy jailors Rakesh Verma and AK Jha have been suspended by the state government for the incident into which a probe has been ordered.
