Jain monk, sadhvi killed in mishap

A 71-year-old Jain monk and a 50-year-old Sadhvi were today killed in a road mishap at a National Highway in Valsad town here, officials said.
"Acharya Shri Ratnakar Suriswarji Maharaj (71) from Vadodara and Sadhvi Sibpragnashriji (50) from Bhavnagar were today found dead at NH-8 in Valsad, after they were allegedly hit by a vehicle," Sub Divisional Magistrate of Valsad Ishwar Patel said.
As per a First Information Report (FIR) registered with Valsad (rural) police station, some unidentified vehicle hit the jain monk and Sadhvi, when they were proceeding towards a 'Jain Upashray' in early morning hours, Patel said.
A passer-by spotted the bodies of the duo and informed the police about the incident, Patel said adding that soon a probe was initiated in the case.
Their bodies have been kept at the Jain Upashray at Shwetambar society in Valsad town for people to pay last tributes, he said.
Police have registered the case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279 (rash-driving), 327 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) along with section 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act for driving dangerously.
