The strike was later called off after a meeting of the striking doctors with state Health Minister Rajendra Rathore, who assured them that proper security arrangements would be made for doctors on duty.
"A resident doctor was beaten up in Udaipur hospital by a patient and his attendant. The attendant, Bharat Singh, has already been arrested and now the minister has assured us that legal action will be taken against the patient also," Raghvendra Singh, president of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors, said.
In the meeting, the minister informed the striking doctors that government was considering formation of a hospital protection force for their security, according to a spokesperson.
Resident doctors in Udaipur government hospital have been on strike since January 29, demanding arrest of the attendant and the patient for the alleged assault on a resident doctor there.
Principal Secretary (Medical) Deepak Upreti and other officers were also present in the meeting.
